R&D Tools Engineer – Web & Linux Environment (Antwerp)
About the role
We are looking for a R&D Tools Engineer to join the R&D organization of a large international technology company based in Antwerp.
You will play a key role in supporting, maintaining, and enhancing internal web-based tools used daily by R&D and engineering teams.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working on internal tools, combining hands-on technical tasks, problem-solving, and close collaboration with engineers in a stable R&D environment.
Your responsibilities
- Provide expert technical support for an internal R&D web platform, ensuring stability, performance, and reliability
- Maintain and further develop existing features, as well as integrate new functionalities and enhancements
- Collaborate closely with R&D and engineering teams to translate functional requirements into technical solutions
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues across the application and its underlying infrastructure
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the internal R&D tools ecosystem
- Maintain clear and structured technical documentation (configurations, processes, evolutions)
Required skills & experience
- Solid experience working in Linux environments (command line, scripting, basic system administration)
- PHP for web development and scripting
- JavaScript knowledge (front-end and/or back-end)
- Databases (MySQL or equivalent): queries, design, and troubleshooting
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Team-oriented mindset with clear and professional English communication skills
Nice to have
- Experience with Perl scripting
- Knowledge of Git or other version control tools
- Familiarity with web server configuration (Apache, Nginx)
- Exposure to R&D, engineering, or technical tooling environments
Education & languages
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- English: fluent (C1)
- Dutch: fluent (C1) is an asset, depending on the team context
Work setup & contract model
- On-site presence in Antwerp is required
- This is a long-term opportunity
- You will start on our payroll for up to 12 months maximum, with a clear intention to transition to the client’s internal payroll afterward
